Dog Suffers from Pancreatitis

Older dogs make amazing pets, but are often overlooked in shelters for energetic, adorable puppies. However, Nicole and her mom, Gretchen, saw something wonderful in Darcy, an 8 year old mixed breed dog, when they met her at the Cleveland APL's adoption center at PetSmart. After only a month in her new home, Darcy stopped eating and drinking. The vet diagnosed her with pancreatitis.

Nicole shares more of Darcy's story:

"After the loss of our beloved 14 year old Husky, Blade, we were left with emptiness and loneliness. We never expected to adopt another dog so soon. However, my mom, Gretchen, and I thought it would be nice to rescue an older dog since older dogs are often overlooked in shelters. They deserve love too! We came across Darcy, an 8 year old mix, and adopted her from the Cleveland APL's center within Parma Petsmart.

Blade was never sick and we never considered getting pet insurance before. We really didn't know much about it. A friend explained the benefits of pet insurance and well, I am so thankful we signed up with Embrace! Within the first month of adopting her, Darcy was diagnosed with pancreatitis. One day she just stopped eating, drinking, and her body started shutting down. We had to rush her to the animal hospital where she stayed overnight multiple nights to receive the best possible care. The internal medicine doctor advised that Darcy's illness was a freak fluke thing! Thankfully, we were covered. We're so glad we were not put in the position to have to decide what our expense cap was to save her life. She is one of the sweetest, smartest, most loving dogs who is now living a happy, healthy life!"
