Background

Not long after the new year, Ghaal, a 10-year-old Domestic Shorthair, visited the vet for the first time with symptoms of lethargy, bloody stool, and pale gums. He was put on medication, but when his symptoms didn't diminish after a few weeks, he was back for an ultrasound. That led to surgery on a mass on his intestine and a diagnosis of a bacterial stomach infection and inflammatory bowel disease.

Ghaal's pet parent, Carla, shares his story:

"Recently my 10 year old cat, Ghaal, who had never had any health issues, was acting lethargic, had blood in his stool, and pale gums. I took him to the vet right away, and, thinking he had a bleeding ulcer, the vet put him on medication, which didn't help very much. The next step was an ultrasound, and they found what looked like a mass on his intestine. The vet noted that the mass was bleeding and recommended having him undergo surgery to remove it.

I must admit, I had considered dropping my pet insurance a few times due to the fact that my boy had always been healthy. This came on so quickly and, financially, I could have been in major trouble had I not had Embrace. I had just moved out of state to go to graduate school a few months before, and thought that pet insurance was an expense I probably didn't need. Boy, am I glad that I held onto it!
