Golden Retriever with Gastroenteritis and Gastric Bleeding
When happy-go-lucky, energetic Oliver wasn't himself, his pet parent, Kaitlyn, knew something was wrong.
Vet Bill: $1,837
Background
After it was determined at the vet that Oliver, a 2 year old Golden Retriever, was suffering from excessive gas in the stomach, he was treated and sent home. Sadly, he'd be back at the emergency vet and diagnosed with gastroenteritis and gastric bleeding later that night.
Kaitlyn shares Oliver's story:
"I woke up one Saturday morning to my normally happy-go-lucky, 2-year-old Golden Retriever, Oliver, restless and uncomfortable. Soon after, I found him lying flat on his side in the backyard, not wanting to move (he is ALWAYS moving). We rushed to the vet, where it was determined through x-rays that his stomach had filled with gas and was extremely painful and dangerous. After fluids and careful monitoring, we thought he had recovered and headed home. That night, around 11PM, Oliver became restless again and started vomiting, leading to an immediate trip to the emergency vet. X-rays, fluids, an overnight observation, ultrasound, and endoscopic exam later, Oliver was diagnosed with gastroenteritis and gastric bleeding. We were given an assortment of medications to give him around the clock for the next several weeks, with orders to immediately return to the emergency clinic if any symptoms presented themselves again.
Filing the claim with Embrace was a breeze, and I was kept me up-to-date on the progress of Oliver's claim the entire time. Today Oliver is back to his normal, happy self, running laps around the living room and tormenting his siblings. I am not sure what I would have done had I not had insurance through Embrace for Oliver!"
